The BIFA suite of Air Cargo Security courses complies with the UK Department for Transport (DfT) Mandatory Conditions & Syllabus and is delivered by approved trainers. Online courses are suitable for personnel employed by Regulated Agents and 3rd party hauliers/contractors.

If you are a 3rd party haulier/contractor to a Regulated Agent you will need to complete a declaration prior to undertaking this course. Please contact BIFA Training for more information.

The Cargo Manager (CM) course is for those managing the warehouse operations and the named security representative. The CM course replaces the old Level G course.

CM covers the following modules (as appropriate):

  1. The threat to aviation
  2. Aviation Security – Organisation and legislation
  3. Protecting air cargo – warehouse
  4. Protecting air cargo – drivers
  5. Protecting & searching aircraftNOT DELIVERED BY BIFA
  6. Reacting to and reporting of suspicious circumstances & security incidents
  7. Security controls for air cargo
  8. Warehouse acceptance & dispatch of air cargo
  9. Prohibited articles
  10. Methods of concealment
  11. Overview of screening methods and selection of the most appropriate method
  12. Visual inspection
  13. Hand search
  14. X-ray – contact BIFA if full x-ray training is required for x-ray operators*
  15. Explosive detection systems (EDS)*
  16. Explosive trace detection (ETD) *
  17. Remote explosive scent tracing (REST)*
  18. Free running explosive detection dogs (FREDDS)*
  19. Metal detection equipment (MDE)*
  20. The supervisor
  21. Security Manager

*Modules 14 to 19 are not included in the standard CM course delivered by BIFA but are available on request. If you intend to screen cargo by any of the above methods please contact BIFA to arrange the appropriate training.

Successful candidates will be issued with a certificate recognised by the DfT which is valid for a period of two years.

ELIGIBILITY – any person undergoing initial or recurrent training in accordance with the DfT syllabus must have successfully completed their background/pre-employment checks and Disclosure and Barring Service Checks, as appropriate, before undergoing this training. It is the responsibility of the employer to ensure that the background/pre-employment check and Disclosure and Barring Service Check has been completed for each trainee and that the trainee has a job, or has been assigned a job, with an aviation security responsibility, prior to undertaking any training. By submitting a member of staff for this course you are acknowledging, and confirming adherence to, the above eligibility statement. Furthermore, a signed disclosure statement will be required.

Note: This level of training should only be delivered where it is relevant to the person’s aviation security responsibilities. People who have not been recruited in accordance with Chapter 11 of EU 1998/2015 must not see or hear this information.
