Refresher CASP - Cargo Aviation Security Principles (Regulated Agent)
The BIFA suite of Air Cargo Security courses complies with the UK Department for Transport (DfT) Mandatory Conditions & Syllabus and is delivered by approved trainers. Online courses are suitable for personnel employed by Regulated Agents and 3rd party hauliers/contractors.

Refresher training is mandatory for all personnel holding Air Cargo Security certificates and is to be undertaken at least every 24 months. This course is designed for individuals who have originally attended one of the following courses:
- Level A – General Awareness
- CASP – Cargo Aviation Security Principles (Regulated Agent)
Having attended a full, initial course in the past, individuals are eligible to attend refresher courses on a bi-annual basis and should maintain records of their training for audit purposes. You should be prepared to produce your existing certificate on demand. Individuals holding certificates that have lapsed are required to attend the relevant full course.
Refresher CASP covers the following modules (as appropriate):
- The threat to aviation
- Aviation Security – Organisation and legislation
- Protecting air cargo – warehouse
- Protecting air cargo – drivers – NOT INCLUDED
- Protecting & searching aircraft – NOT DELIVERED BY BIFA
- Reacting to and reporting of suspicious circumstances & security incidents
Successful candidates will be issued with a certificate recognised by the DfT which is valid for a period of two years.
Any person undergoing initial or recurrent training in accordance with the DfT syllabus must have successfully completed their background/pre-employment checks and Disclosure and Barring Service Checks, as appropriate, before undergoing this training. It is the responsibility of the employer to ensure that the background/pre-employment check and Disclosure and Barring Service Check has been completed for each trainee and that the trainee has a job, or has been assigned a job, with an aviation security responsibility, prior to undertaking any training. By submitting a member of staff for this course you are acknowledging, and confirming adherence to, the above eligibility statement. Furthermore, a signed disclosure statement will be required.
This level of training should only be delivered where it is relevant to the person’s air cargo security responsibilities. People who have not been recruited in accordance with Chapter 11 of EU 1998/2015 must not see or hear this information.
In accordance with EU 1998/2015 and UK Aviation Security regulation, it is an offence for the course and exam to be completed by another person other than the named delegate. Records must be kept and produced upon request, by the CAA, to evidence; (i) completion of the course and exam by the named delegate and (ii) the name of the supervising responsible person.
