DfT | Short Straits Disruption

BIFA has been asked by the DfT to bring your attention to the likelihood of disruption on cross channel routes this weekend. Please see the updated message from DfT below.

The summer getaway via the Short Straits has begun, and we anticipate high volumes of tourists will travel via Eurotunnel and Port of Dover this week. In particular, we expect Kent roads to be very busy throughout Friday 28 July, Saturday 29 July and Sunday 30 July.

Delays for freight traffic are very likely. If you can, consider changing your travel plans this weekend.

if you cannot change your plans:

  • If Operation Brock and Dover TAP is in operation, Police and DVSA enforcement teams will be operating across Kent to ensure compliance.
  • You may also be asked to delay your exit from truck stops in the area, especially if local roads are disrupted.
  • Please check the information provided by Eurotunnel and Port of Dover before you travel, and ensure you have supplies of food and water, particularly in hot weather.
