Earlier today the European Commission published a press release announcing that it has decided not to extend the Consortia Block Exemption Regulation (CBER).
Within the EU, there had been growing opposition to renewing the CBER, and CLECAT was one of the leading voices against retaining the CBER. BIFA congratulates them on their successful campaign on behalf of the EU forwarding community to ensure that shipping lines in future will be subject to competition law.
The Competition and Markets Authority has been undertaking a similar review of the UK’s CBER, with BIFA submitting evidence on behalf of its Members. It will be interesting to see how quickly and what the result of the review is. You will find a copy of the Commission’s announcement, and the link to the Q&A, HERE.
