On the 17th November, DEFRA publicly advised its decision to establish one BCP for the Short Straits at Sevington. This information was forwarded to BIFA Members via the Association’s website etc. The document has to be carefully read because phrases such as “Government’s intention” are included and there is a consultation running until December 9th on the announcement.
Having received representation from Dover Members, the Association believes that it is important to bring to Members’ attention the local Members’ concerns about the location of the BCP at Sevington, which we believe is 20 miles from the port or an approximate journey of half an hour. The views of the local port community are summarised by Dover Port Health and can be viewed at Import of SPS Goods via the Short Straits – Dover Port Health Authority.
The implementation of the Border Target Operating Model is complex, particularly for the importation of SPS goods, so it is especially important that Members with practical knowledge provide information to ensure that the correct decision is made.
