The Road Haulage Association (RHA), with whom BIFA has a good working relationship, has announced a Transport and Supervisor Apprenticeship standard, in collaboration with TRS.
BIFA’s main focus is on the freight forwarding and customs related apprenticeships and training, the Association felt it important to bring this initiative to Members attention, particularly where there is an overlap on Members between the two Associations.
Staff members who undertake this training programme will follow either a transport or warehousing pathway and will develop professional competence across a wide array of critical areas, including:
- Understanding and meeting customer service contracts
- Developing methods to monitor staff performance and behaviours, including recruitment and resource planning
- Learning how to effectively use IT systems to promote productivity
- Environmental, health, safety, and regulatory compliance
- Supply chain operations monitoring and reporting
- Resource planning methods and techniques
- Organisational improvement techniques and project management skills
The apprenticeship can be completed in as little as 12 to 15 months.
Candidates will also achieve a Level 3 Transport Manager CPC qualification and all apprentices will achieve Level 2 English and Maths if required. Training can be delivered face-to-face in classroom and online.
For small and medium businesses that do not pay the apprenticeship levy, the Government funds 95% of the apprenticeship. The employer pays the other 5% plus the apprentice’s wages. Larger firms that pay the levy can meet 100% of the costs using their levy funds.
